66 Blower Motor Tape
« on: February 10, 2019, 09:57:56 PM »
Im not sure that I've ever seen the tape that is applied around the blower motor case seam in person. Anyone have any suggestions what would be a suitable Product to use?

Yes sometimes it takes a few tries.  I often recall the thread just have to remember a few key words and/or who posted a particular comment

Would think that it was 1" Black Gaffer's Tape...

Charles wrote in one of the articles that the tape was 1" wide and was wound 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 times around.   He stated that the color of the tape varied from a Grayish look to Black in color.

Does anyone know the width of the Original tape??

Don't have one in front of me Have found it to be the same width as standard masking tape in the past

Would think that it was Black Gaffer's Tape...

Make up and surface texture is not even close IMHO    Always looked paper based when I've found it off of a motor or removed a section in the past

Ok,

So, then We're talking about 1" Masking Tape painted Black...

Masking Tape will never last out in the elements though... as it will mostly just dry up and fall/flake off (just like the originals)...especially if its been painted... Just an FYI..

Would think that it would be good for a Trailer Queen though...

The tape looks like regular 3M light tan, paper based masking tape, then painted black. There's 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 wraps around the motor. I like to put the end underneath and give it a bit of help to stick down with a dab of contact cement. To seal and make it water resistant, spray it with Scotch Guard (after you mask the edges with blue painter's tape).

I have a roll of 1" black masking tape, no need to paint.  Think I found it with simple web search.

I would think that, considering the sloppy way it was applied, the tape would've gotten some black body sealer on it while spraying it to the various areas on the firewall.
