Cut back upper control arms
« on: February 03, 2019, 05:12:01 PM »
Looking through older threads this is mentioned but not defined IIRC this has to do with the shape of the UCA that faces the car when mounted, does this apply to 68 and up UCA until the use of the 3 rivet UCA ?

The first picture is a un cut UCA. The second is a cut back 68 UCA. The cut back weakened the UCA and cracks are often found in them. That may have lead to the redesign.

Many times the stamping is so light on these and other UCA's as to make it indistinguishable.

Typically two digit. You can make out the first barely next to the easier to the deeper stamped digit to the right

Also a very small stamp/font was used when you can see it.

Jeff thanks for the pics, is there a known reason for the cut back UCA and is there a expected plant and time frame these parts would be seen or used ?

Make sure that you inspect those control arms for cracks. While looking for a set of rebuildable uppers for a customer, I was disappointed to find cracks in this assembly line survivor with original rivets.
