67 window regulator handles
« on: January 30, 2019, 09:37:20 PM »
When it comes to the 67 window regulator handles on my interior decor equipped car, I see that the 67 MPC calls for C5ZZ-6523342-C regardless of interior type. The 60-68 MPC has this used for 65 (from 3/8/65) through 67.

But the handles on my car are stamped with C7ZB-6523348-A.

I get the engineering vs. part number discussion, but what confuses me a bit is the C7 stamping.  To me that means that there were engineering changes for 67, but perhaps not enough to cause a change in service parts, which would make the changes cosmetic or perhaps something that does not affect fit and function.

So if I happened to find NOS C5 parts in a box, it could be a Forrest Gump situation - you never know what you are going to get (like chocolate).  Could be a C5 stamped part, or a C7 stamped part, or C6 if there was a variation for that model year.  I'm I thinking this through properly?

Ah just waiting for someone to inquire about this! There is a very small difference between the C5 and C7 handles. The C5 handles mounting screw depth is deeper since 65 66 used allen head screws to mount. For 67 a phillips oval head screw was used to mount the handle so the mounting hole is shallower. If you install a C5 handle on a 67 window regulator shaft, the screw will tighten but the handle will not. The handle will move in and out. Likewise if you put a 67 handle on a 65 66 regulator shaft, both screw and handle will tighten but the allen screw head will not be flush and will stick out a bit. I have seen NOS of both styles in a C5 part number box so be careful and ask seller what the engineering part number is. Oh and the same applies to standard interior door handles. 65 66 has a C5ZB part number and 67 has C7OB number. Same screw info applies to these also. And you can receive either in a NOS situation. I have also seen Both the C5 and C7 deluxe door regulator handles come in a NOS C5 box also but never a C5 come in a C7 deluxe handle numbered box. I hope this info did not confuse anyone!! I have talked to Drake about reproducing The correct C7 type handles for use on 67's but they have never heard of such a thing and do not believe me that there is a difference between the years so chances are we will never see handles with correct mounting screw depth for 67's with standard interiors.    Paul

I have a 63B obviously in my Shelby. Drake in the last couple years just started reproducing the C7ZB handle.  I know many have scratched up door inserts with the standard interior handle. A 350.00 mistake with the Burton panels.
Here is the repop. Which I found identical to the Ford handle. It is shorter on the curve side and smooth around the area when the retaining screw is inserted.

Yes, those are the inside DOOR handle, not the window crank handles.

CRAP! I wondered too! All great info that now that 'I know', I have to go look at what I had! Fortunately, I have two Service Replacements with the C7ZB-652334-A numbers embossed onto them ;)

Excellent information, thanks.  A swing and a miss for the MPC.

It would be interesting to post some pictures comparing the two, but I don't have any C5 window handles handy.  I have access to some, but it might take a few weeks...and now the task to remember :)
