1967 AC Hot water control valve
« on: January 29, 2019, 09:06:58 PM »
Can anyone tell me what screws are used to hold the valve to the bracket? I don’t see them on Jim’s spreadsheo, likely due to it being part of an assembly.

Also, want to verify that the bracket and the vacuum assembly are both dichromate finish.

Thanks
Bill

Believe they were slotted head machine screws. Sorry don't know the size and looking for a picture to confirm. Original finish was goldish for the valve and bracket. Main body of the valve is brass or bronze it appears

Thanks guys. I thought the mounting screws for the valve are 8-32. The ones I removed fit on to a 8-33 nut, but they are pretty corroded. The 8-32 x1/2 screws I bought seem to bind and I don’t want to strip the threaded brass valve. Could be 8-36, but I haven’t been able to find them locally...seems to be uncommon, or I’m just not looking in the right place.

Just to confirm...I did get the 8-32 to thread in smoothly.

Thanks for the pics and other input.

Is there a gasket between the bracket and valve?

no gasket - there is an o-ring.  see the post referenced in reply #3

Although I can not attest to the originality of mine, I have taken 2 apart and both appeared to have had a paper/felt gasket. I assume an o-ring would work fine, but not sure what was originally used.

Bill, that could very well be the case.  I assumed it was an o-ring.

Paper/felt gasket is what I have found many times which has lead me to the same conclusion. A "O" ring is what I have always successfully used as a substitute.
