Topic: 67 motor mount heat shields

Did a 67 GTA 289 2bbl Feb San Jose build have motor mount heat shields? If so were they installed on both sides or just the left side? My search did not produce results for the 67. Thanks for any help.

That concurs with what I see when I removed the engine. However, the engine had been removed previously. I do see that NPD sells the heat shield and lists the application as 66-68. That is what motivated the question

Do you have the 67 assembly manuals?  They are much more helpful than looking through a non-Ford parts manual.   The assembly manuals are available at NPD and other resellers

There appears to be a conflict in use for 67. The base number, 6C038, does not appear in the 67 Chassis Assembly Manual (same for 68) on the motor mount page (As a reference, it does appear in the 64-65 Chassis Manual motor mount page as 6C038). The full service part number, C3DZ-6C038-A, appears in the 60-68 MPC as being used on 289 2V and 4V engines (221, 260 as well - no HP) for Mustangs, 2 each; the 65-72 MPC (75 ed) shows 289 4V, 64 thru 67, 289 2V, 64 thru 68, essentially the same.
Service say "yes", assembly say "eh".

Jim, I found some of the same information that you did:

1965/67 Mustang 289 4/B carb R.F. or P.F. - C3DZ-6C038-A quantity 2 - Shield - engine mount heat - 8" long

Two things that are questionable here:

1. It lists A, F, X for 63/ as applying to 260 and 289.  Conspiracy theorists might just start looking for that 1963 Mustang?
2. For 65/67 line says R.F. (right front) or P.F. (passenger front), which I would consider the same.  But then a quantity of 2?

The 1965 MPC lists the part, qty 2, for a Mustang 289 4/B carb.

The 1967 MPC concurs with 1965. 

So it looks like this is for 64.5-67, 260 or 289, 4 barrel carb only, but not the 289 HiPo, using 2 on the passenger side?  That is taking the MPC information as literal as possible.

It is safe to conclude though that they were not used on the C code in 1967, the original question.

I hate abbreviations. RF = Regular fuel, PF = premium fuel.

The 1965 MPC lists the part, qty 2, for a Mustang 289 4/B carb.

The MPC separates (reading between the lines), 2 barrel carburetor engines - 221,260 and 289 (as NOT in Full size Fords), then lists 4 barrel carburetor engines as Mustangs only (Mercury cars not included).

I have, on 64, 65 and 66, that I can remember. I think there was a pair on a 67 "A" code I worked on 15 years ago.

Therein lies the query. Is not shown on the 67 assembly drawings, but shows up in the MPC as a service item. As far as I'm concerned, there is a requirement for 289 Mustangs thru 68 (not 302).

Just to "complete the chain" here, the "1966 Only" MPC uses the same Illustration as that in the 1965, except  instead of being titled "FORD", it is titled "FAIRLANE - FALCON", and the description by the illustration showing the 289 engine mounts is noted "All models with 289 CI engine". The Text description is identical to the one you posted from the 1967 MPC.
By the way, in the descriptions, "R.F." and "P.F." stand for "Regular Fuel" and "Premium Fuel", which seems odd that they note both after "4/B carb." when I thought that all 4/B carbs for both 66 and 67 were designated to use "Premium Fuel" ??

Thanks for the correction on the abbreviations.  I looked in the general section for the definitions but did not run across it.

John : You are correct. It does not show up in the 1965,66,67 or 196068 MPC's. However, by 1975, Ford must have finally realized that they had forgotten to list those two abbreviations, as it was finally included in the abbreviations shown in the 1965-72 MPC. I guess better late than never.

The applicable years are actually 64 thru 67 for 4 barrel carburetors. The 1964 "D" code 4 barrel was a low compression engine, hence - regular fuel.

I have never encountered motor mount heat shields on a 1967 Mustang or Cougar. Here is a snap of the 1975 Mercury MPC.  Y car line is Meteor, which was for the Canada market.

As another data point, I rebuilt my '67 289-4V for the first time in December 1976 and there were no heat shields present.
