Topic: 65 K Code 9 inch Axle Tag Incorrectly Stamped??

First time posting here! I am about to start a concours restoration on my Dearborn 65 K Code Fastback. The car has been untouched since the early 70's till now. I removed the 9 inch axle tag and decided to decode it. The axle tag reads as follows:
WCZ-H
3.50
4LA
921

The data plate in the drivers door (which matches the vin, color, date etc.) has a 5 stamping for the axle, which decodes as a 3.50:1 conventional. The WCZ-H on the tag decodes to a 1965, 3.89:1 9 inch, 28 Spline axle assembly. But the tag has a 3.50 stamp on it, as you can clearly see in the attached photo. Is this a common occurrence or just a very odd anomaly?? The axle and tag are original to the car, date codes match, hipo specific axle bumper etc.

Where are you seeing that WCZ-H is not for a 3.50?  The K convertible I restored had the same code.

Between my 300 page mustang restoration book with the codes, and multiple sources online, a WCZ-H decodes to a 3.89, from what I have been able to find.

As does the 60-68 version, WCZ-H is a 3.89 ratio.

The "tag" looks strange.

Both of my May 65 Dearborn K Codes have this same tag.
This was noted as a common occurrence on the old hipomustang website and in Tony Gregory's HiPo Mustang book.

This has been reported numerous times by owners with what appear to be original axle tags. Since these have not been reproduced for long I don't know a source other than Ford for the tags.  This subject came up a number of times when Kevin Marti would not make them (originals were damaged in some way and did not look appropriate on a restored car) since the "book" didn't show that combination of code and axle ratio.

We have at least one other axle coding error/misprint this time in 67 that made its way into Ford documents only to get repeated allot of times in new publications and door tag decoders. Took a decade or more to get that one straightened out
