Help with correct 289 block number

My 1967 coupe had its original 289 engine block swapped out for a D9 302 block by some mechanics back in 1980 before I owned the car. I'm trying to figure out what the correct block number would have been, but I an running into some confusion since the 289 was starting to get phased out when my car was built. According to the marti report it was scheduled for build on 3/23/67 and actually build on 4/5/67. According to information I have gathered the block could have been the C6AE-6015-C or the C8OE-6015-A. Also, according to mustangtek.com the C8OE-6015-A may have had either the "289" marking or the "302" marking. I have found one example on craigslist of a 67 san jose A code fastback that was built in june of 67 and had its original engine which was the C8OE-6015-A. Hoping someone has some good info regarding this issue. Thanks!

There is evidence to support the C8 block used on very late 67 production. With that said keep in mind that there are casting dates along with the  C6 or C8 engineering numbers. You will have a hard time selling the idea that a 4/5/67 build date (engine would have had to be cast much sooner) would have a C8 engineering number. I suppose if you want to be "that guy" arguing the point every time someone notices it then you had better have a  March 67 or earlier C8 block to match the story. If it were my car I wouldn't put a C8 block in it if I didn't have to. But that is just me.

Bob's correct on this. I used to own a 67 san jose convertible with a late March build date and the engine had a C6AE casting number. March/April is still mid-year production whereas June was more late year production which is when the C8OE blocks and other C8.. engine parts started showing up in production mustangs.
