Early 68 San Jose car
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:34:54 PM »
Last week I purchased a 68 S code coupe that was built in San Jose 8-24-67. This is the earliest 68 that I have owned. I have not spent much time with it but did notice that it has the 67 style park light retainer, the split type retainer.

It has been off the road since 1979.

Is there any other unusual things to look for on this car?

I am not sure what I am going to do with this one.

This could serve as a great "survivor" example if nothing else. How complete is it? Pictures Please? It may start some interesting conversations too if we begin noticing anomalies. I hope it is a great time-capsule of sorts. "off road since 1979" could retain a lot of details.

Sadly it was disassembled to a shell with a lot of metal repairs. Last week I brought a huge van load of the loose new and used parts home. I hope to get the body and drive train tomorrow.

I'll post pictures of any thing I find out of the ordinary.

Does any one know what the first day of production in 68 was?

August 21st was probably the first day of '68 production.  Did you get a Marti report yet?

Here is the Marti Report.

I thought it was strange that it was optioned with the GT package that included argent styled steel wheels but also listed as a option were wire wheel covers.
May he did not want the styled steel wheels.

Says it was a Stock order.  Maybe the dealer person doing the order didn't know SS wheels came with?  Or, maybe it was cheaper to get a set of wire wheel covers like that, lol.

Would be a neat looking car restored.
