AM radio
« on: December 14, 2018, 11:42:10 AM »
Ready to install the A/M radio in this '66 convertible. The face plate was removed and sent out for chrome. Radio works but the preset buttons are sticky and won't pop back out once they are pushed in. I have the top cover off, but i don't know what to look for. Can they be oiled or lubed somehow?

                                    Thanks, Pete.

I had mine restored however I have a collection of turntables and radios that I've repaired and maintain. Some aerosol electronic cleaner and dielectric grease can go a long way in old radios.

+1. However, there are several different types of the spray on Electronic Cleaners. Be sure to read the label and get one that won't "attack" the plastic push buttons.

+2  :)

Remember to tilt the case to control the run off. It will evaporate quickly but you want it to carry the crud away before it does

I personally use crc which Lowe’s readily carries. I’ve used it on radios with plastic and Bakelite. The most important spot to be careful of is anything clear plastic. Will probably fog that up in a heartbeat regardless of the brand.
