Topic: Rear Tie-Down Brackets

I am a little confused about the mounting location of the rear tie-down brackets on a 1970 mustang. I have recently notice in a number of different pictures the brackets can be mounted either on the inside or outside of the frame channel, I have mounted mine on the inside between the exhaust pipe and spring, but am wondering which location is correct or does it matter?

Yes saw that and is pretty much why I mounted mine as the article but I have seen several what I thought where unrestored car pictures of them mounted outside the frame rail and is why I asked the question, will assume that mine are mounted correctly. Thank you.

Were you comparing dual exhaust to dual exhaust or were some of them single exhaust tie downs. Might be the issue/difference

This picture is from your 1970 unrestored files, assume this is a dual exhaust car.

exhaust pipe looks new & lower bolt not there so dont go by that photo & tie down hook has no rust.

If the rear of the cars was tied down using these brackets and T-hooks how was the front of the 1970 mustang tied down??

T hocks inserted and turned in the front cutouts/dolly locations at the front of the car

Reason they were shaped  differently from all the others

Hi I recently purchased tie downs however I had interferance with the exhaust etc
So I installed them on the outside of the frame rail.

I hope this does not really matter? I just wanted them on regardless as I thought they were cool.

Don't recall anyone doing that before. Hopefully you installed them at least facing forward.  Also guessing you don't have factory exhaust also 


Of course it matters. Were not designed to be installed that way and it may create issues if you use them as designed. Your car - your choice though.

After all considering - I could not sleep well and ended up going to the exhaust guys and work around the tie down brackets on the inside frame.
