C6 Driveshaft Seal

Can anyone advise which is the correct seal on the 1970 mustang C6 output shaft. Is it and flat type or extended bellows type?

Thanks Bob, I am looking for the correct 1970 428 CJ - C6 AT seal, the one on the site you have linked is for a 4 spd tranny or are they the same??

68 and 72 MPC list a different rear seal for the four speed (both small and large output shafts) applications  and the C6 from 66 up to print date. Dimensions differ slightly

Have maybe 9 unrestored 68-70 C6s (in pictures - saved for other details) all with the dust cover style (Bottom one in the first post) rear seal like we see on C4's often.

Over the years often kits didn't include the dust shield style rear seals and rebuilders didn't use them for some reason.

Back in the day the dust boot would start squeaking and at the dealer where I worked we were instructed to just remove the boot... :o

They weren't concours cars back then... ;)

Okay so that is good to know that the dust seal type was what came on the factory cars, and may have been altered removing the boot or replace with the flat type.
Jeff would it be possible for you to post a couple of good pictures of the original seal with the boot on the car?

Yes the auto seal is much different than the manual seal. The tailshaft seal i sent chris brown to make came off a boss 429 trans & 428cj is the same & its the victor assembly line type  (double felt & rubber) that was originally made back in the late 50s era used on big output manual transmissions & they are  concours correct  because all service replacement seals are a totally different type & dont even look close to originals.

There is a Motorcraft D5 seal that is similar to the original C3AZ 7052-A Extension Housing Oil Seal but about 1/2" shorter. Here's a photo of both.


Looking at my April 1969 revision Master Parts Catalog it gives dimensions for the original seal as 2 3/4" OD, 1 11/16" ID, 1 1/2" Long

Thanks for the offer but its seems pretty clear that the correct seal is the one in my second attached picture of my original post,
I just wanted to make sure it matched the original factory seal which it does based on the pictures posted by Jeff.

Thanks guys, yes the long seal is what I have installed on my restored transmission and I also have one with its NOS box, which is the one I originally posted a picture of to verify if I had the correct seal on my tranny.
