65 Jacking instruction decal detail question.
« on: December 02, 2018, 11:32:03 PM »
Something that came up this past weekend is that the current reproduction trunk jacking instructions show the hook style configuration.  Since the early style is a slide carriage bolt setup, has anyone seen a jacking instruction decal with that detail?  Maybe there wasn't a jacking instruction decal at all for those cars?  I have a few August (alternator car) examples without a decal.

Looking for examples before Feb 65, San Jose or Dearborn.

Unfortunately mine was replaced. But there was one there before as I can barely see the outline of where the original one was. The repro is about 1/16 smaller around. I checked with a friend who has a mostly original coupe made in SJ November of 64 and he doesn’t have a decal.

Neither of my January '65 Dearborn convertibles have them.

What's the sch build date of your car, for reference in this thread.

Thanks.  Guess I have to ask... is the trunk lid original to the car and are you sure it was an original decal before?

Trunk lid original to the car.  When my dad bought the car in 1992 from the second owner there was a decal there from what I remember that was old, yellow, and was peeling off (I was 12 at the time).  I don't know for certain if the second owner maybe put a decal there.  The car was repainted (before 1992) over the original paint but from what I can tell, inside the trunk was not repainted.  I can take a pic of the trunk lid where the decal is later today

Have at least one example (will look for more later) from that period at San Jose with the C5  jack instructions with the loop in the drawing that appears to be an original

5R1883xx. Haven't gotten around to posting a bunch of pictures from this example in the unrestored section. Pretty nice car and a fair number of pictures. Projected build date of 18B

This is the best blowup I was able to do of the Ford p/n for the decal. I sort of looks like C4ZB-

Jeff:  The gold 6 cyl coupe had a decal, but it had the hook hold-down setup.  5R178xxx, 26A sch date

I would suspect a 5R188x car had the hook style hold-down.

Yes we're both saying the same thing but using different terms  Hook - loop   One the end of the hold down the other the bracket attached/welded to the floor  :)

Sorry now see that you were looking for examples BEFORE Feb 65  ::) My mistake for reading over that detail

To that end or question

Right now I have examples (pre Feb 65) with adhesive residue in the shape of the jack instruction decals on the following

5R1809xx (end of Jan car like the gold coupe)
5R1590xx

No its a hook shaped rod holding the spare on that one. When they redrew the graphic they left off the curved end to the hook   ::) Red arrow

Got to say wow was that repo really off/unlike originals. Wonder who made that one and when  :o

Terrible job of an attempt to trace an original.

Jeff,

Any good shot of the trunk on the unrestored Oct of 64 fastback?  I looked through the thread on that car and there are a couple of shots of lid but mainly on the driver side.  One barely of the passenger side but you were focused on the latch...
