69 S Code Air Cleaner Assembly - Help Please
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:08:58 PM »
For a Jan built 69 Mach 1 S Code, I believe the correct PN for the air cleaner assembly is C8OZ-9600-C. The measurement across is 16.79", I am unsure of the height. I need some help in determining how I recognise the correct assembly. I have been told the part number is not stamped into the base or lid so what is the best way to accurately say you have the correct one? Also, on Mustangs I believe that all lids are chrome but was this the same for Cougars as well? If so, why would the example that I have be a painted lid (with what appears to be correct stamping pattern).

I am far from an expert on this & hope I am not posting incorrect information. I would have to think the base is the same as a 428CJ "Q" air cleaner. The partnumber you have listed is the same for an early 428CJ "Q". In regards to painted or chrome lid, I believe the only chrome lids stamped in this pattern were Boss 302 & 428CJ "Q".:

Believe the best method is to check for all the features (dia, height, drivers side valve.......) to determine if you found the right one.

Not all were chromed. For that year the chroming was an "extra" from my understanding so we see 69 S codes with painted valve covers and air cleaner lid and those with both chrome

Here are some fairly original examples of both
