Topic: 1964.5 Door Plug -To Paint or Not to Paint

I am asking whether I should paint the door plugs for the window adjustment holes or not. See pics. I have looked at other links on the topic including the one below. I have learned that the plugs were the body color except for the first few weeks of production which were natural zinc unpainted. They were painted off the car. The build date for my car is May 8, 1964. So, paint or not to paint – or take Charles Turner suggestion:

For concours showing, personally, I might be inclined to spray another set with body color and have them available in case a judge decides they don't want to accept them as non-painted.

What is the vote?

They should be painted on a May ‘64 car.  I have examples of April ‘64 cars with painted plugs.

Just for info.... Dearborn (Allen Park Pilot Plant) Mustang VIN#1.....Painted Plugs... Original Paint car....as well. 

I'd like to see some early pics of Original cars with Unpainted Plugs... It's been so long that I don;t remember seeing too many...

Originally the plugs had a thin foam gasket . Sometimes you could see the edge of the foam around the plug. It turns to dust many times because of age which is why it is not often seen.

When did the other two plants begin production?

100211, an 09C car, has unpainted plugs.  It also has the early doors with no grommet for the lock knobs.

San Jose is reported to have started production on July 13, 1964

Not that I've even heard of... Ford took possession of the car in 1966 and donated it to the Henry Ford Museum in 1975 or thereabout I believe.  Even if you go out on a limb and say that the car was re-painted for Late '70's- Early 80's Publicity shots (which the car figured in prominently back then)...You can see that the Door Jambs had not been re-painted and it looks like they carry their Original paint...

Don't have any of those pictures from the 80s when the car was being promoted/shared for the first anniversary shows that Ford sponsored, that show enough detail or are close enough IMHO to determine if they it was or was not repainted.  Just going by what at least one person that saw the car up close stated.

Do you have any pictures with enough detail to show the door bumpers, around the door tag or other areas?

Got quite a few... What areas would you like to see Jeff of VIN#100001....!!??  Collected around 100 good pics from the last 20+ years... some really good up close ones just from the last 10 years...
