Correct upper AC bracket for 70 428CJ
« on: October 24, 2018, 10:50:45 PM »
It seems every year CJ uses a different upper AC compressor bracket (68- C8AZ-2888-A, 69- C9AZ-2888-A, and 70-D0AZ-2888-B). Does anyone know how to tell the three versions apart ? I need the D0AZ-B  version but don't know how to identify it.

Thank's in advance, John

There should only be one that I am aware of. Casting number is C9AA-2882-A. For both 1969-70.

Are you talking about the upper compressor bracket or the lower bracket? C9AA-2882-A is the lower cast iron bracket. The upper steel bracket has no casting number. I am only aware of two different upper compressor brackets. One for 67 and early 68 and another for mid 68-70. If I am missing one for 1970 I hope someone has a picture so I can see a difference.

My bad, read the number wrong. That part is called the lateral brace, the only difference I can see is the welded on nuts for the attaching and adjusting bolts. One is square, the other is hexagonal. Unfortunately at this time, I don't know which came first.

Or if it is a mfg plant difference? There are other examples of a minor difference having to do with where a part was made

A supplier difference? another possibility.

These brackets can be found on 1968-71 Ford / Mercury passenger cars, with 390 or 428 engines with air conditioning.

A 69 vs 70 b9 smog pump mount bracket had the same nuts welded to them 69 square 70 hex so maybe the same pattern change here on the welded nuts and maybe the same vendor made the b9 bracket &  a/c bracket.
