Painting/Sealer/Deadener process - 1970 Metuchen built Mach 1
« on: October 21, 2018, 04:05:32 AM »
1970 Mach 1 428 car built Jan 12 1970
resto thread on 428CJ forums here: https://www.428cobrajet.org/forum/index.php?topic=20494.0
imgur album of the car (187 pics): https://imgur.com/a/7tnhS

Car currently sits in red oxide primer and will be taking to painter soon. I'm writing a google doc outlining the whole painting process as he isn't familiar with concours procedures. It's a work in process and I can send to anyone if interested. Maybe get it published here someday  ;D

I tried my best to dig up old threads as to not make you gentlemen repeat yourselves. However, I didn't seem to find much info on NJ built cars. I have a good idea of order of operations, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I found this thread (http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=1259.msg6364#msg6364) but it's in regards to a Dearborn built car.

How would a Metuchen build differ from the order outlined in that thread?

Thank you! Sean M.

Welcome Sean.

Let me have a day or so to review a few thousand pictures or so and see what stands out, is different  for NJ that year.

Are you interesting in including Mach I only or all Mustang paint and sealer differences/details?

Thank you Jeff. I've read a few of your detailed write-ups and I'm very impressed with your knowledge and collection of original examples. I tried my best to answer my question by doing research in order to spare you the time, but now I feel honored that I'm going to get a personalized analysis. I'm happy to accept details regarding any trim package so long as it applies to my car. Looking forward to your reply. Sean M
