69 E Brake Routing

Posted a response on another forum and though I would post the same info over here to help members currently and in the future.


Here are some pictures of a 69 Dearborn installation that might help




Short cable from under dash attaches to the long main e brake cable. Short cable is attached to the bracket welded between the frame rail and cross member. On the other side a arm (shaped like a flattened "C" holds and routes the long cable towards the rear on the other side. Attached to a bracket welded to the floor.


Long cable attached to the rear frame rails at the rear under the rear seat riser


Cable ends attach to the rear brake backing plates and to the activating arm on each side

jeff the cable bracket by adjuster 2 nuts needs to be flipped so cable is on top side to help clear exhaust better as thats the way i have seen from factory anyway & its a common mistake made on restorations during reassembly.

Interesting adjusting nut on the Dearborn car.  Different set up on my Metuchen car ?  Brian

Interesting adjusting nut on the Dearborn car.  Different set up on my Metuchen car ?  Brian

If you notice the system does not appear to have been adjusted when the picture was taken - assembly was still going on. Barely any of the threaded shaft was showing through.  In the original picture posted there had only been one nut installed, just to hold things in place for the moment I would guess. Good eye :)

Jeff, The spring retainer (Pink Arrow in picture)is typically installed on the other end of spring. ;)
