Division Bar/Vent Rear Weatherstrip
« on: October 11, 2018, 01:55:00 PM »
I am reassembling the vent Assy on my 64-1/2 coupe. I have all new weatherstripping and rivets. Is there a rivet crimping die similar to the one used for the front grille. The rivets are the same size, but the die is too wide to fit inside the channel. Is there a narrower die, or is there another way to crimp the rivets?

Secondly, how about the rivet at the top of the chrome frame. Is there a die for this or some other way to crimp this as well?

You may have to go with some sort of hand clinching tool like shown here:

Yeah, that looks like it would do the job, but VERY pricey.  Thanks for the tip.

Just grind down the edges so it fits.

Nm, I see you have the short jaw and fittings.

Charles, that may work.  Do you have any suggestions for the larger rivet on top of the frame?  this would require a larger die on the outside.

I believe that Jim had posted his setup once using a bench arbor press

I bought one of these from NPD a long time ago to use on the seals at the top (chrome rivets) and it worked real well. I've never done the post seals but I have them and need to at some point. I used the tool this last weekend on some '66 grill rivets and it worked ok there too, but not quite as well on one of the two latch locations at the top. I had to finish the job underneath with a good center punch and some persuasion with a ball peen hammer.

I think Jim has the better idea and it's cheaper. The research and application is already laid out for you too!
