Order of reassembly - fan, radiator
« on: September 22, 2018, 11:40:39 AM »
67 289. What's the correct or safest order of reassembly for the fan pulley, spacer, fan, radiator and shroud. Trying not to do things twice or ding any painted parts. Thanks.

Pulley/spacer/fan would have been attached to the motor when it was installed (decked).  Radiator/shroud installed after the engine on the assembly line.

This may be obvious but set the fan shroud in over the fan before dropping in the radiator.   Bolt up radiator, then bolt up shroud.  Hoses and cooling lines last.   Pulleys and belts should be on before starting this.

Safest? can be done a number of ways. Biggest opps is forgetting the shroud in the process. You can place a payer of cardboard on the back side of the radiator to try and protect the rear face (push hard enough and you'll still bend fins) during the installation but just remember to pull the cardboard before you install the shroud  ::)

What comes first, pulley, spacer and fan or radiator first, for me depends on the car but as mentioned better lay the shroud in there before you get too far in the process and be careful not to bend, lean on or crack it during the process.

Cardboard radiator fin protection may seem over cautious to some but smart to others  ;) . I say better be safe then sorry. ;D

"Brain"?
In the good days, an old bath towel was used. It was more readily available than cardboard.
