PCV Valve
« on: September 12, 2018, 07:13:08 PM »
Ive posted in the want section looking for an original or NOS PCV valve for my c code 289. Ive seen a handful of autolite replacements that look like the original part but however are black. From what I've seen the originals were Bare aluminum? Is this correct?

Bare aluminum is not correct. First off it is made of steel . They were zinc/cad plated (silver) originally but in 1968 changed to black oxide or black chromate.  If you can't find one PM me I my be able to help.

Here is a look of at least two different versions (different suppliers) that made the original C6AE valves

Later dark finish versions often carry the AUTOLITE stamping and a C9OE as well as the C6AE stamping on the outer lower part of the body of the valve

This is what you are looking for.
The paper ring seen in reply #3 came in the boxes and they were typically for service PCV only. The assemblyline versions typically did not get the additional ring.

While on the subject I see there are different styles of grommets. I have what I believe to be an original grommet that was on the valve cover when I purchased them to restore. Does anyone have a photo of an original grommet?

Just to clarify your asking about the valve cover PCV grommet for a standard stamped steel, painted valve cover ?

Bob Gaines, the valve and ring pictured is off of my 4,000 mile coupe and believed to be factory installed. My 10,000 mile convertible has the ring also and is definitely factory.

That is why I wrote "they were typically for service PCV only" That way it does not exclude the occasional anomaly. Besides personal observations I have many factory engine photos that do not show the ring installed which is why my point of view is that the ring was not typical.

I took a look at my grommet today. This was already installed on the valve covers when I purchased them. I simply cleaned it up and re installed when I painted them.hard to see but It appears as though it has a fomoco logo. Curious if this may be original. Haven’t seen any replacements with this logo
