69 351w GT Hood Question, Few may be able to answer
« on: September 08, 2018, 09:04:16 AM »
I'm in the hunt for a Hood for my 69 351w GT Mustang. These cars also had a Hood Scoop with the Turn single indicators. My question is Did the 69 GT Mustangs have cut outs under the Hood scoop similar to the Fairlane Hood Pictured below?

Yes they did depending on production date
My car originally had that type of hood
See Marcus Anghel's hood article

Thank you 7Lscjracer for the Marcus Anghel's hood article, it shows this "Pie Cut out" in the center of the Hood as Version 1: Early production 1968. So it's not quite answering my question or does it? The Article doesn't indicate that its specific to a GT but more as a early production 68 so this makes me feel maybe this hood cut out would NOT be correct for May 07 1969 Dearborn GT build ? The reason I ask is I talked to a guy that owned a 69 GT like mine and it originally had the pie cut out in the hood (Not sure of build date) and he thought all GT came that way??
I just wanted to be sure before finalize my hood ??

The pie wedges hood is for any early build mustang with a factory installed bolt on scoop
My car is November 17th 1968 but I don't know how much longer this version 1 hood was used after that
You'd be looking at version 4 in my opinion for your car with holes drilled for scoop mounting of course
Reprints of the Ford combo shaker and bolt on scoops template are readily available
Have a look at this thread on production dates:

I leaning your direction on this, Last Question I know some cars did not get the Insulation pad on the under side of there hood how do I know what hood did or didn't receive these pads from the Factory?
Would a 69 351W GT get these ?

I believe it's a Grande and Mach 1 attribute only, but more so Grande.
No evidence of a hood pad on my car bought in May 1981.
I don't like it anyway, keeps under hood temps up.

We discussed this before,  I know jacks GT Q code convert I restored long ago had a non pie cut hood.  As I remember it was built in Nov 68.  It was the original hood.
