Correct fuel pump- '65 V8 ????
« on: September 03, 2018, 08:49:16 PM »
I haven't messed with a lot 6 cyl.
Sorry, I thought I'd mentioned that it is for a 289. Oct 64 build at SJ. Can you tell me if it is correct?

NOTE: Much of the following was split from another thread when this section changed focus from 6 cylinder to V8    ::)

the can is not correct nor is the gasket shown.
Thanks Carlite,
I have the correct can but what is the correct gasket? Is the can of any use to another application?

gasket should be white. can is a service replacement. not used on the assy. line. makes a nice ornament though.

Thanks Bob,
So is this a correct pump for my Oct 64 build Vert or is it just a cool period piece?
Regarding a 289 V8 fuel pump the AC brand would be a after market replacement. The similar looking but different Carter brand fuel pump with the clamshell upper and lower half would be more assemblyline appropriate . The later fuelpump with a sheet metal bottom half was a later 65 production version. Both will have CAR bure TER as the trademark on the pump . Paint the fuelpump mounting gasket white for a more authentic look. The filter can will be white with red FOMOCO trademark letters. Those filter cans are reproduced.

Original style fuel pump gaskets - Upper left = 6 cylinder  Lower right = V8

This is for 66Raven.... Yes, That's a V8 Fuel Pump.   The V8's arm is much longer than the Fuel Pump for the I6.  As mentioned, The color of the Filter is wrong and without "Correct" graphics..

"Care to share what V8 in 66 was originally equipped with an AC fuel pump originally? Don't recall any Mustang applications."

So Jeff, You are saying that AC ONLY Supplied 6cyl Fuel Pumps in '66????...And no V8 Fuel Pumps for the Mustang?!?? Weird.

Obviously, The Fuel Filter Canister was deleted from the AC 6cyl. Fuel Pumps in the '66 Model Year...  I made the "false" assumption that the "V8" cars would have been the same.  Apparently not.

So AC only supplied the V8 Fuel Pumps for '64 1/2 to '65 then?!??

No not at all.

Carter was the supplier for Mustang V8 fuel pumps during the 60's

I believe that Carter didn't supply fuel pumps for 6 cylinder Mustangs in 1966

"Carter was the supplier for Mustang V8 fuel pumps during the 60's"

LOL...Well, I knew that.....lol.....  :P

....Just trying to pin down an "Exact" year of when they (Carter) started supplying V8 Fuel Pumps in the Mustang....1966.... I would "Assume" now......

"And no I don't believe that Carter didn't "....Whoa, A TRIPLE Negative!..in one sentence!  Confused!....lol.... Can you clarify a bit better..?

Thanks Jeff...

From the first production Mustang in 1964 IMHO

Interesting! Didn't know this...

If you come across any "Assembly Line" pics of a '64 1/2 to '65" Mustang with a Carter Fuel Pump (Whether it be I6 or V8) installed, (Where you can obviously see it)...Please be sure and Post it here...

:o)

Much Thanks Jeff....!

I believe 66Raven was wanting to know if the AC pump is what came on the assemblyline when he uses the term "correct" and not just what would work. Just my perception. The AC pump may work but is not assemblyline correct for his Oct 64 build vert IMHO.

Tony, although this is not a assemblyline picture it is a vintage magazine shot of a unmolested 65 GT350. The GT350's probably had the most photographed engine compartment shots from back in the day. Shelby had no reason to change out the fuel pumps and they would be the same as any K code. In the picture I have circled the fuel pump . Although you can not see the Carter trademark you can see the distinct "button top " that the Carter fuelpumps had. The AC pumps do not have this detail. Maybe Jeff has more photos of Ford assemblyline showing the button top .

Yes that’s what I meant. Thanks Bob. So does someone have a picture of what a correct AC pump looks like?

Yeah Bob, Assuming that Mr. Shelby didn't change anything, That's definitely a Carter Fuel Pump in there... No question.

Thanks for the pic...
