Trans Case Color
« on: August 26, 2018, 12:58:43 AM »
Mid May 65 San Jose.  Were the 4 speed manual transmission case's and tail shaft's left natural or were they painted ?  Ford toploaders and the B/W T-10's ?  If painted what color ?  Thanks,  Brian

Thank you Bob.  Seems the temptation to paint these is irresistible to some.  Brian

The only time I can recall of a legitimate painted  in the scope of 60's vintage Ford 4 sp transmission is the 427 MKIII Cobra typically had a black painted toploader transmission. Other then the various owner painted to look like a natural iron or aluminum color the Mustang versions shouldn't be painted.

I tried cleaning the Aluminum for days...and it never really came clean...(or good enough so I could live with it...) It was like my Aluminum Trans casing's metal was "Stained" or something with blotchy white marks and white patches in the Aluminum metal and never polished out.  I gave up and finally submitted and just painted the damn thing.. some Rustoleum Pro Series "Aluminum" if I remember correctly..

I have no regrets!  Stills looks mint 15 years later.. Though not technically correct...

It was definitely one of those areas that I took some liberties..
