Only option for 64.5 is to find nice ones and have the plastic chrome re-done.

Here's a link to a spray on chrome company. http://www.sprayonchrome.com/ (catchy name).
Do a search on your favorite search engine - I like Duck Duck Go https://duckduckgo.com/ (they don't track you) using "spray on chrome" for others.

Sorry its taken so long to send pics. Armrest was in the family truck and my wife alighted off with it this morning.

Pics is attached including the vinyl armrest piece and the base. The armrest base is flat black painted over gray.
Thanks Roger

Appears that someone may have rattle canned the base black at some point. Wonder what the torn label was - part number label?

Noticed it has the beveled inside corners (hand hold/grab) like the 65-66 versions

Like the pictures Chris posted earlier in the discussion here is another comparison - Pictures provided by another member. Thanks

Additional Pics.  Dunno about the missing labels. No sign of chrome
Thanks Roger

Not missing labels but one where there normally would not be one if that is what it is. See below. If that black was original it would be under the label since painted the label serves no purpose and can't be read

Have seen many over the years that had no "chrome" left on the base so that part IMHO is not unusual. Not sure if the same process was used as on other plastic "plated" items or something different

Looked at some other cars built around the same time as your car and same plant on those examples they are not painted black

Look back at photos in Chris V's post.

What you have there is a 1965 base (not an early 64 style) that's been rattle canned as others have suggested. The angled in area at the finger pull is a dead giveaway of the later style base. My April 1964 built car has the strait finger pull area, and are chrome. I also, like others have stated, have never seen a 64 or 65 that was black. yours being a later, 1965 base makes the whole issue a mute point really....

Good luck with your project!

Thanks. I have come to realize the truth of what you and the others are telling me. What is confounding me is that my father bought the car in 1972. These were the armrests at the time.
Thanks Roger
