1964.5 Arm Rest Base Color
« on: August 08, 2018, 06:07:03 PM »
My 1964.5 convertible came with black arm rest base. All I read says it should be silver. My father bought me the car in 1972 from a family. I have no reason to believe the black arm rest base was not factory. Any insights?
Thanks Roger

What is the interior code?  Also do you mean the vinyl or the actual plastic piece that should be chrome?

Build Date May 8, 1964. I have the original FoMoCo numbered arm rests which are in good shape. One of the arm rests cracked and broke because one of my family members (me) leaned too hard on the 50 year old plastic. But both of the plastic base pieces are black. I can only find silver specified and reproduced.
Thanks Roger

I had a guy paint the car which turned out to be a disaster. But the plastic arm rests are not painted. They are black through and through.
Thanks Roger

My June built D code came with plastic/chrome arm rest unfortunately they were cracked and fell apart. They are different than any repop I have seen. If you know of anyone repoping the correct base for a 64.5 please let me know who.

Here is the difference between 64.5 vs 65.  You can se the later ones are angled on the inside.  Like the squared door sill plates, they are not reproduced.  You would think with today's technology and perhaps the demand that someone would reproduce these.  Think how many 64.5 and early 65's don't have the right ones...
