Convertible Top Replacement
« on: August 01, 2018, 08:03:12 PM »
Hello Everyone,
My convertible top is in need of replacement on my 1969 Mercury Cougar.
I am interested in opinions as to who has the best replacement tops.
I know Robbins is a long time manufacture, but have also found a few others
online. What have any of you used? I've been reading up on how to replace it,
but I'm not sure I wish to tackle that. It would be just me doing it!
Thanks,
P.S. Feel free to move this topic if another area would be more appropriate.

For my 1966 Mustang, I called ARO, EZ-ON, Kee, and Robbins. A lot depends who you talk to on the phone, but I decided on ARO. They said they were the original manufacturer for Ford at the time. They were able to put on the brass zipper, and the leather snap for the attachment to the top frame.  I made the leather attachment to the zipper end from baseball glove leather. I am happy with the top.

Ez on and Robnins are 1 company these days. They still sell separate product lines. Not sure if one is better as my upholstery guy had issues with both. Best place to buy once you decide is Topsonline.com.

I have a Kee top on my '65 that was installed during the restoration nearly 10 years ago.

I am very satisfied with it-it was ordered with a brass zipper and plain, no logo vinyl window.

I would like to see the various companies offer to "stamp" the windows with the correct, original logos that were originally used like they do for the Corvette crowd.

I had thought about removing my window and sending it in to be "stamped" but haven't yet.
