As long as the original phosphate coating remains you may rejuvenate the look by oiling or with Boeshield. Sometimes the coating will get a tinge of rusty color over time and may be leaching up thru the phosphate. If not too extreme can be flushed out with oil and the dark color will return.   Have done this with hinges.

Thanks for all the info. I will post what my bolts look like in their current state and the new bolts once treated with Boeshield. Also, the STAR washer bolts that were used elsewhere under the hood have not turned rust color like the flat washer bolts. Strange, I'll post pics for that as well.

I have been following along and reading with some interest what you fella's are suggesting, using and doing.  For myself I asked Jim to P & O some already sand blasted parts for me two years ago.  Those parts from my 69 are the hood hinges w/springs, the shock tower caps including attaching nuts and bolts and the coil bracket.  I have found that with a Boeshield T9 application every two month's or so seems to retain the finish.  My experience is that the P & O finish is not permanent or long lasting and requires at least some attention and care.  The Boeshield application using a 1" brush and a small rag and 10 minutes is all it takes.  Before 6/10/16 and now 8/14/18 photos appears about the same ?  Brian
