So any concours car from 64 1/2 - (70?) would have the knockouts intact?
Guess you didn't read the link I posted above. At least to the start date Ford was pretty clear. Have not found any reference from Ford or when and if they stopped following this practice. Do recall (as many of my friends have also) knocking these out of hundreds of cars in the late 60's into the 70's as we worked on cars of all makes and types - either our cars or in my case while adjusting brakes at garages in my youth
Since the two companies that supplied the backing plates also did the same for the other car makers through those years its likely that they had the same practices and design that they carries across the product lines. Maybe we should be looking for the remaindures of the plates rather than the current presence of them for evidence and clues
I was on my cell (at car shows!) and didn't follow the link
I do remember working on cars of this era when I worked at various independent repair shops in the mid 70s. I remember having to knock out the metal plugs and using rubber.
But since we worked on all makes it's impossible for me to remember the details of which car.
The rear axle of my car is still covered in dust and grease and sitting in the corner. Attempts to view the knockout produced a nice pic on the pumpkin side of things, but the drum side of the backing plate that should have the knockout tang remnant was still covered in crap.
