Either dealer installed, or perhaps owner installed from a nicely equipped donor car with factory components.

Ok, plot thickens, I am attaching build sheet and pictures of doors build dates.

Doesn't look like the build sheet supports having the door speakers

Does the 76 mean anything on the back of the door panel, it matches the rotation number on the build sheet.

Yes its the second rotation number. You may find a limited number of other "76"  written on some parts as you go through the car. Not as many as San Jose cars typically would

Only have examples of Dearborn, 1969-70 Cougars for speaker hole examples though. Same cutouts?

Can anyone tell by build dates if the doors are original? I guess next question do I leave it the way it is or do I buy new door panels, wiring, am radio and make it correct,  but then there are 2 giant holes in the doors that I would know about.

It is your car so do as you want. Most important do what will give you the most satisfaction. Changing it back is going to require a lot of time, money and access to correct parts.   1.Are you doing a ground up bumper to bumper restoration to factory specs so that you can enter into a concours event?  2.Do you want your car to look original and it is going to be pleasure driven but don't plan on completely restoring the car for concours events? If #1 then change everything back to the way it was delivered including putting back glue in glass.   If #2 then I would find a nice a factory AM FM stereo and have someone retrofit it with blue tooth so you can listen to tunes from your smart phone. A AM 8 track which was also a option will be virtually useless. No one will be able to tell the difference if original equipment or not as long as you use a correct AM FM stereo radio unless you are waving a Marti Report in their face.  I and a few others will be able to tell it has glue in glass but the visual difference is minimal and not worth changing back IMO unless going #1 route. Just my 2 cents FYI I have been there done that both ways.

If you want to reverse this at least visibly just changing the door panels to non-speaker ones with camouflage the existence of the door holes in most cases. Of course you have the speaker wire or holes to continue with but those are not as visible.

Of course repairing all fo this would fit our focus here - but your car and your call ;)

stuck between a rock and a hard spot, I don't really want to lose the original door panels with part numbers, Do you know of anyone that recovers them anymore that can transfer the backing to

Pete?
