Exh. Manif. Bolts

On my March 1966 assembled,  Windsor CL11 289-2V,  would the exhaust manifold bolts most likely be the saddle-lock strap or self-locking-washer type?

It had the saddle type on it and I'm almost certain they are original, but that doesn't agree with Mr. Mannell's book.  He says the self-locking type were placed in use in JAN 66.

Most would say that the locks wouldn't be used that far in production but we find original cars from time to time built as late or later than your car with them.  It will be a point of contention in judging, so you'll have the headache of dealing with it if you install the locks.  Otherwise, the ramp-lok style would be your safest bet.

I'm 90 percent sure they were original, but I don't want to deliberately set-up a "prove it" situation.   SO... Ramp-Lok it is!

Charles, would you take off points?  If not, I belive the proof is there.  You now have a statement from the National Head Judge.  If you really believe it's original...  This is part of what makes this hobby so interesting.

The norm is for the locks to be common on the first few months of '66 production.  The rules are not clear-cut on the matter, but to avoid any chance of losing points, it would be best to stick with what is considered more common for that time period, which would be ramp-lok.  Remember that the rules are a guide to help the judges, they are not forbidden to step outside of what is explicitly called out on the sheets.

Of course, with some research and documentation, enough compelling evidence could be presented to sway the opinion of the judges and possibly make an update to the rulebook.
