Dome light 1964.5
« on: July 13, 2018, 06:41:31 PM »
Seems like a rather simple question.  Did the 64.5 Mustang Coupe come standard with a dome light, was it an option, or not available? I trashed my original headliner and all the hundreds of photos I took before I tore it down did not catch a shot of where the light would have been.
Thanks.
Phil

Standard.
By your question, I assume you haven't got a set of Mustang Assembly Manuals for your year car. You should.

I don't remember there being a dome light standard.

Thanks Chris.

Jim, actually I do, and did reference the manual, but cannot find any info regarding one.  I suppose then I am to assume there wasn’t any?  That is an assumption I would not like to make.

Yup, it's an invisible dome light. Both my 69 Mustangs had one, a Hardtop and a Sportsroof. Now that I think about it, I believe that there are provisions for one in the cross roof brace for 64-66 Hardtops in the form of a couple of mounting holes. Plus there is an unlabeled light in the schematic. The thought was there, the light wasn't.

No dome light on a '65-66 coupe.  It wasn't available.  The only factory-installed interior lights on a '65-66 coupe were the two underdash courtesy lights, and, if your car was optioned with a console, the lights inside the console base.
Too much junk, too little time.

Even thought the Attachments for a Dome light are in every '64.5-'66 Coupe underneath the headliner... It was never offered in those years.

The "Dome Light" became a bona-fide option in the 1967 Model year though...and was available.

It's a very popular Upgrade for "Non-Concours" folks to put a '67 Dome Light in a '64.5-'66 Coupe when re-doing the Headliner...as the Dome light kits are readily available.

Tony, the aftermarket light assemblies is what caught my mind.  I did not think mine had one.  I disassembled the car nearly 10 years ago and had some serious health issues six years ago.  I saw one in a catalog, but never put that item on my replace list I made when tearing it down.  Thanks.
