Here are some pictures of what I believe to be the original generator for a June 64 K code. I used to think that each of the parts was dipped and then assembled, but you can see that there is no paint on the inside of the end brackets or the body. The main body has a gunmetal blue finish after removing the black paint with stripper. (Sorry, but the paint had already been removed from the outside of the front bracket and the body several years ago.)
You can see the overspray of black paint on the end of the armature windings that blew through the holes. The generator was apparently not painted end on, but rather from a 45 degree angle to near perpendicular to the main body, the paint overspray is only near the tip of the armature. I repainted it with the same technique and got pretty much the same overspray pattern. There was also very little coverage on the surfaces nearest the outside circumference within end holes near the fan, because the spray was inwards.
Also, the fan must have been mounted when painting, because there is no spray on the shaft where the fan was mounted, only on the exposed tip of the shaft, the lock washer and nut. Also, the condenser lock screw/washer appeared to be screwed in part way during painting - paint all the way to the hole, and only the top of the screw and captive lock washer were painted.
