« on: July 05, 2018, 08:33:09 PM »
Where do I find information on correct interior options like seats, steering wheel, door panel as well as correct painting of hood, trunk, wheel, along with correct suspension and exhaust for the proper restoration of my Dearborn built 69 GT 351w   ?
Many Thanks

I would start by ordering the Marti Report for your car:

https://www.martiauto.com/martireports.cfm

This will tell you exactly what your car came equipped with from the factory. Then, when you have questions about what a "convenience group" option or "comfortweave seats" are all about, ask the experts on this site. The folks here know their stuff.

First welcome to the site - hope you find the help and information here useful in your restoration endeavors

There are a number of places to start

- Door tag (drivers door jamb)
- Buck tag - depending on where it was built in 68-69
- Buildsheet

But as mentioned you can cut to the chase by contacting Kevin Mart and getting a report. It will also tell you other details you will surely need as you go through the process. Also its not uncommon for past owners to fake or alter door tags and buck tags. Even seen a few suspect buildsheets

again welcome. got alot of reading ahead of you. Lots of details already posted in other threads. Learn to at least try the search feature or just start reading through a section  that is related to your needs

Welcome. I recommend you get a set of the 1969 Mustang Assembly Manuals to assist you in your task.

There is no easy button, no book or guide that will tell you all of this information. New information is being uncovered every day, new products are coming on the market  while others we have relied on go away almost as often.

Not sure of your amount of exposure, abilities, time, dollars available, space and so on but start reading posts to get an idea of different things are being done so that you can get an idea of a goal (how far you want to take the car) you can establish at the beginning and use as a guide post through the whole process. Get a true evaluation of the cars current condition and how complete the car is and as mentioned above a honest evaluation of your skill level (what you can do and what will need to be subbed out) dollars available, time, space and the other things mentioned.

Plenty of guidance here gained by doing things right and making plenty of mistakes over the decades. Listen and learn from our mistakes and don't think that for some reason your situation is that different from what others have faced. In the end, if you follow along, you can reach your goal

IMHO the best place for information is a well maintained and participated in forum that is focusing on the same thing your looking for. Only way to share, read and see the latest info in a peer review situation.

Again welcome

Here's the link to the library if you're a little overwhelmed with wading thru the site.
Slop gray or black components is a good read in there.

Thanks guys for the information, I do have the Marty report it shows my vehicle was equipped with GT Equipment group but when I type this into the search feature nothing comes up? So I must be doing something wrong, My car came with low profile seats (not like the high back mach 1 seats) but they were not mounted in the car just part of the bundle of parts thrown inside. So how do I know these are correct for my car? I'm working to get the car ready by completing the body work getting it ready for paint. But I want to tell the painter of specifics of how hood and trunk areas should be painted
for a May 1969 Dearborn build?

You're correct about not seeing much info on the '69 GT. I did a quick look through and didn't find a lot. The paint (top and underside has been covered very well) but not a lot on interior. When I first started my restoration I would spend several hours each night reading old threads and there is a lot of information hidden in these. Probably there is someone here with the answers to any question you may have but you have to be patient as some members aren't here often. I don't think the GT was nearly as popular as the Mach1.Good luck with project.

Not allot of discussion on the 69 GT package here in the past as there are not many left or originally built. Package sort of went out of style as other packages became available such as the Mach I package. Basically just a decor package unlike earlier years.

I'm working to get the car ready by completing the body work getting it ready for paint. But I want to tell the painter of specifics of how hood and trunk areas should be painted  for a May 1969 Dearborn build?

Are you asking about how the engine compartment is painted or the black out hood top and cowl area?

For the trunk I guess your asking about the inside of the trunk.  For that there are a number of treads and the article on 69 Dearborn undercarriage detailing includes at least a page and some pictures showing sealer, sound deadener and paint finishes

Will post a few more here if you will provide a body type we can get even closer to what your car might have had

Jeff I was referring to the paint specific Looking for where I would find this info, Just not a lot of stuff out there

Does this mean the car more valuable because there so few of them or less valuable because there not very popular ??
Many Thanks Dan

I suggest that you start a thread asking for each detail (separate ones keep things neat and easier for others to find later) your looking for

Know we've had a bunch of pictures of original cars and showing some of the hood black out details for 69 Dearborn. And believe the 69 trunk has been covered also. If you want something more exact please provide the body type. If you do I'll focus on fastbacks or the coupe and convertible size trunk area. Its pretty easy

Does this mean the car more valuable because there so few of them or less valuable because there not very popular ??

Rarity does not always mean more valuable. Does mean that they were less popular when new or (not in your case) that the production was limited due to production period or some other issue)  Value comes IMHO from demand. When you have demand and rarity those often are the higher valued cars.  If rarity was all it took cars like the Levi special Gremlin or Pacers would be worth allot. Don't think they are at the moment  ::)
