What's in a Sports Decor Group?
« on: July 05, 2018, 01:34:57 AM »
I'm looking for a definition of the Sports Decor Group for the 1969 model year.  My searching tells me it's a hood scoop, racing mirrors, wheel covers and a unique pin stripe, and was only available on sportsroofs. Is this correct? Thanks!

Definitely available on a coupe in '69.  And you could delete the stripe if specified.

That's part of the reason I asked - Kevin Marti's Mustang...by the Numbers book shows only sportsroofs receiving this option.

I have photos of two cars with this option and both are coupes.

Sure that is not another package. I have many coupes also with at least some of the items but there were many different packages. Always wondered what a "Western" Package was?

OK, it is called Sports Appearance Group here on the Marti (and has stripe delete).

Wasn't nitpicking the terms used just didn't recall that coupe package or took the time to check my files. though I have a bunch of coupes equipped very similar in my files.  Must have been fairly popular but will leave it to someone else to look up the stats in Kevins book

Looks like the same thing  and if they are the same there should be a tape stripe kit listed in the MPC that year in the same or close to the Grande stripe kits.

Thanks for posting the images. Your Marti Report supports a notion I had been entertaining - The Sports Appearance Group and Sports Decor Group are similar yet distinct option packages. I can imagine a scenario where the Decor Group was offered on fastbacks and the Appearance Group was introduced in response to non-fastback consumers inquiring about a similar treatment. Or something like that :)

I've seen the stripe on coupes.  It is the same configuration as the SportsRoof meaning it has two outer black stripes and the one center red stripe.  The difference is that is runs along the top of the fender, door and quarter like the Grande stripe.  Just smaller.
