The front vent frames can be re-chromed.  The wing window surround is stainless with a chrome pivot and the vertical support is stainless.

The door glass surround is stainless

Coupe/convertible quarter glass has 2/3rds of the frame that is chrome and then rear back piece is stainless.

Though a different year, I just had my '67 Vent glass outer Frame & Quarter Glass Frames (coupe) chromed a month ago...They say my $600 pricetag was the low end of "normal" for these 4-items :(

Yes, for the door vent windows. The pivot is chromed pot metal, the frame is unplated stainless steel (my "K" frames are magnetic). It's a compromise to chrome plate the entire frame just to get the pivot plated, it is very difficult to reinstall a removed plated pivot. The reproduction frames leave something to be desired. What you wind up with is a shiny frame that does not look like stainless steel. Masking the SST frame was very expensive.

Again, thanks to all for the info.  After putting some elbow grease into the passenger side window frame and vent window, it looks like the outer vent frame is really what needs to be rechromed.  Does the front section, which looks like this > come off from the vertical door run channel?

You can see the assembly of any Mustang (and other Fords) if you down load this -
http://squarebirds.org/Manuals/1965/1965-72FordPartsTextCatalog/
It's Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) for 64 thru 72.
Another great aid is the Mustang Assembly Manuals. Those show how the car was assembled, and you can do some reverse assembly to take it apart.
A quick answer is yes.

I used some elbow grease and most of the mouldings cleaned up nice.  I disassembled the vent frame completely and the outer frame will have to be rechromed.  The inner vent frame itself (Stainless) looks great except for the pivot point.  Is this repairable or is a replacement in order?

I cleaned up the quarter window frames today and they are also going to need to be rechromed.  The stainless piece on the rears are fine.  How does the glass come out...in one piece?  I am sure I can get it out like a jig saw puzzle, but certainly not what I want to do.    So you are saying that it is best to rechrome the front inner vent frame rather than buy a replacement frame?

Phil,
I pried up the frame at the top CAREFULLY, then the bottom. Go slow, have a beer. I think that letting the frames sit in the sun for a while might loosen the sealer enough to make it work.

i use kerosene to remove the glass from the frame. let it soak into the rubber gasket overnight and use a small thin flat edge screw driver between the glass and the frame each end and slowly wiggle the gasket loose.

works for me

Similar to what has been shared, but no adult beverage, no kerosene, just a vise, a couple narrow blocks of pine (soft) wood, a couple towels and I clamped the glass (noting to NOT clamp against the "curvature"). I then took another block of hardwood (hammer handle) and tapped around the perimeter of the stainless trim. It pulled loose very easily like this. I'm not sure I would want any "buzz" on or slippery surface of the glass around my steel workbench, for fear of dropping the glass as I release it from the vice...but that's me. Like you fear, I was quite nervous I would break the glass but once I did one vent window, all fear left me.

Phil

Problem is two-fold. The only "right answer" is NOS vent frames. Reproduction frames I have found are "ALL CHROME" so not really acceptable in many "judged" situations and if you send it out to get just the pivot chromed, it likely will also come back "all chrome" (pivot and surround). Jim mentioned that a person could request the pivot to be chromed seperately (stainless being masked off) but that process is expensive and is flawed in as much they cannot assure you the masking will not leak chrome onto your stainless. Other threads I have read suggest that any attempt to remove just the pivot to have it chromed, presents yet another obstical...Re-attaching it without having interference for the glass being re-installed.

You'll need to make a choice based on your resources, pocketbook and expectations. I've never tried a reproduction vent surround myself, so I cannot answer to the quality. My pivots were "medium nice" so I intend to re-used them unless something else comes up before I go to assemble the car..

I've had pivots re-chromed and the stainless buffed after.  Out of the 10 or so I've had done, there were some very minor scratch marks that could be seen around the base of the pivot.

NOS ones are the best alternative, although the cost may be a drawback, they are normally advertised around $100-150 each.  There are also different designs which one would need to be aware of before purchasing.

All great solutions to my situation.  I am going to try and find used originals that are in good shape.  At least that is my next direction.

Charles, while at a show today I came across a 66 that had what looked like repro, as they appeared to be all chrome.  Not so! The pivots were rechromed and the ss frames buffed out as you said. Beautiful!  Waiting to hear back with price from chrome.  Depending on price, this may be best option for me.
