brake master cylinder advice/help please

bought a new brake master cylinder for a 66 gt350. new one doesnt come with a push rod and we cant remove the old push rod from the housing. we tried placing it in a vice and using a slide hammer but no luck removing it.
any suggestions?

Did you try soaking it in some sort of lubricant or "nut cracker"?  May just need to soak awhile.

Hang the rod from a bar on the vise and just bang it off... It will go...You have to break the internal clip to get it off..

I had the same problem a little while ago. Since the internal piston should be replaced, I used a cut-off wheel to cut it almost in half. Then I used a screwdriver and twisted between the two halves to split them apart. In my case the clip was retained on the push rod and I could use it again in the new piston.

What HE said! You'll want to re-use the clip.

I came across a clip for 65-73 manual brake push rod:

If you break yours looks like they're available.  Maybe you can study the picture and figure a way to unlock it with a fabbed up tool?
