length of lower control arm 1969-70 Mustang
« on: June 19, 2018, 12:57:03 PM »
Hello everyone and having an issue with the rotor toe way out of adjustment and was wondering if all control whether NOS or repo were the same lengths on a 1970 Mustang?

I cant get the lower control arm adjusted back in towards the motor to get this done

Or do I need to shim the upper control out

any help would be appreciated

It’s pretty common for the shock towers to lean in and cause alignment problems. 67-70 lower control arms are all the same.  Many people go with an export brace to attemp to correct the problem. Some of those don’t fit well.  You can search here for “export brace”.

The root cause is still miss-aligned shock towers. Sometimes it can be corrected a bit by jacking the car in the front center and repositioning the shock tower braces.  Look for cracks and rust damage at the shock tower where it meet the frame rail.

Just to add, - jacking up the car helps with installing the one piece brace if things have started to sag as mentioned but requires doing the same to take it off typically which is a real pain. A 80.00 harbor freight porta power set does wonders to re align by spreading the sagging shock towers. It can be done with engine still in the car. FYI the weight of the engine adds to the issue so getting things re aligned with the weight of the engine in the body is helpful. Of course you should also check for cracks etc.  On my various car restorations I typically use the original one piece export brace as a yardstick /template to make sure the shock towers are in their proper relationship on the top side before proceeding with the restoration just to be on the safe side.

Kevin & Jeff thanks as the car is on a twiller and only have front suspension in, so guess I will measure one of my 69 on the inner aprons, also will put a 1 piece shock tower brace.

Jeff is their ant dimensions that you might have for some help providing there are no cracks?

Bob not Jeff but we think the same most of the time LOL. You will find the specs you seek in the "body" manual of the 69 shop manual set.
