Would there have been paint daubs on the shocks?
Chris and I have been discussing the subject a little through PMs and it appears that there may have been a group of shocks that were possibly unmarked with a paint daub in 65 unlike later years.
Ford books so far do not really help and buildsheets show the vast majority of cars (typical cars) lacked any identification on the buildsheets. During this period the shocks must have been housed in bins waiting for installation and the bins marked some other way.
Best we have at the time is that applications like GT's, K code, exports and possibly 6 cylinders received some marking but this would have left the majority of the cars build with no daub ID
Similar practices were used on some other markings in later years so it does not seem to be a wide possibility
