'65-'66 I6 Convertible Engine Mounts.

Subject: '65-'66 I6 Convertible Engine Mounts.

Supposedly, The 65-'66 I6 Convertible Engine Mounts are different from normal I6 Hardtop and I6 Fastback Engine Mounts.

I believe that the '65-'66 I6 Convertible Engine Mounts sit a 1/2 lower than the regular I6 Hardtop and I6 Fastback Engine Mounts, but can't really confirm this..

Also, If you install normal I6 Hardtop and I6 Fastback Engine Mounts, I'm wondering how much of a major difference in clearance it will really make... Does a 1/2 inch really make that much of a difference??!??

I don't think that they make the '65-'66 I6 Convertible Engine Mounts in Repro.....  Does anyone have a source for them???!??  or should I just use the regular I6 Hardtop and I6 Fastback Engine Mounts that are made in Repro in the future if I need to use them....??

I have always wondered this..

Depends on where its measured at. If measured at the mount then the total at the fan tip/edge might be enough to hit the radiator shroud

According to the '65/'72 MPC, '65 and '66 6cyl Mustang fastback, convertible, and hardtop all use the same C4UZ-6038-A (RH) and B (LH) engine mounts.  '65 6cyl Falcons use the same mounts also.  NPD and Virginia Classic Mustang carry these reproduced items.  You may also score some NOS ones on Ebay.

Somehow, I still don't think that I've found the answer that I was looking for to this...

There were part number listings somewhere that the I6 '65-'66 Convertible Engine Mounts were a 1/2" lower and also ran under different Ford Part numbers.  I'll have to retrieve these Part numbers to continue this discussion...

This is what I'm looking at right out of the MPC: http://squarebirds.org/Manuals/1965/1965-72FordPartsTextCatalog/09-1965Text-Engine.pdf

The bottom half of page 4 in section 60.2.

I think the answer is in the Assembly Manuals... I think Charles is right.

To Matt:  Matt, Don't forget that the Original Part Numbers could have been Superseded...especially in the '65-'72 MPC.... Ford could have Dropped the Original '65-'66 Convertible Motor Mounts and just put the ones for the Hardtop and the Fastback in its place... It was not uncommon at all to do such a thing...especially at Ford.

I'll dig through them when I get time today or tomorrow... I have have all of the Original Ford literature...and then some... A digging I will go... and I'll get the answer.....regardless...and report back here..

According to a Dec 67 MPC the insulators were different between a standard V8 and Mustangs with either the 170 or 200

For 65
Convertibles - C3DZ-6038-A & C3DZ-6038-B
Coupes and fastbacks - C2DZ-6038-B & C2DZ-6038-C

For 66
Convertibles - C3DZ-6038-A & C3DZ-6038-B
Coupes and fastbacks - C2DZ-6038-B & C2DZ-6038-C

Just for the heck of it for 67
Convertibles - C7ZZ-6038-D for both sides
Coupes and fastbacks - C7ZZ-6038-C for both sides

Support brackets changed every year. But were the same between all body styles made that year

Thanks Jeff..

I knew that I wasn't going nuts...

I guess that Ford just Substituted The Hardtop and the Fastback ones as a Service Replacement part for the Convertibles as time went on..  The difference wasn't that great between the two different isolators that the Hardtop and Fastback ones couldn't be used for the Convertibles... I guess..

Here is a screen shot from the MPC that puts it all in tabular form.

Thanks Jeff and John for clearing the muddy waters!  I hadn't seen the '67 MPC version.
