1966 Gold Stripe Help
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:43:18 PM »
I did a search without getting much help as regards the gold stripe color for a '66 Hertz car. I see that 'Inca Gold' #43476 has been mentioned. Could some of you fine folks advise me as to what color works to match the original gold color? Thanks for any assistance.

I take it that Raven Black 9000/9300 is the correct black body color.

Hi Mike,
Welcome. When my dad had my moms '66 GT350H (6S547) re-painted he griped about having to buy powdered gold to mix into the gold paint. This was in the mid-1980s and while I was heavily involved in Mustangs with my dad and mom I don't recall why he decided he had to add powdered gold dust to the paint. It might have been our local SAAC rep how was extremely knowledgable regarding everything Shelby. Im sure the correct color answer will appear here soon. BTW: the gold stripes DID look amazing when the car was finished.

Adding the gold powder(bronze powder) to clear was the way it was done back in the day. The flacks where suspended in the clear and that was what was used. I think Branda still sells the powder. Others have matched the gold color to more conventional paints which what most do today.

Fellows: Thanks. We are going to paint and clear the car (Raven black; code 9000/9300)this next week (after much prep). Then remask and apply the gold stripes and then clear those. You will be able to 'feel' the stripe. Advise if that is not a valid way to go forward. Mike

Feel the gold stripe is the factory way to go . It is of course your choice to how you want to do it.

+1 Feel and see the stripe above the base "paint" layer

Also may close attention to how the ends and behind areas were treated on original cars rather than get the "painted piece by piece look" that looks IMHO so over/incorrectly restored

Will make all the difference in the world for those that value and realize the differences

How close of a color match is your current test panel to your stripe kit? Can you provide a comparison photo?

Thanks
