Topic: 1966 automatic selector shift seal

I have a real nice AT selector shift bezel but it needs a new rubber seal.  The problem that I’m running into is that the small pins that are mushroomed over the seal to mount it are about gone. Does anyone know of a good fix to replace the seal and make it adhere to the shift bezel that has little to no pins left? I hate to trash the bezel because of this reason.

Those were my thoughts too but thought I'd wait till somebody who has likely "done it before" chimed in. Perhaps some sort of "C" clamp or clamps to hold while it sets up 24 hrs.

Yep, that's what I did, epoxy worked well, and also yes, small C-Clamps to hold it while it sets, worked fine for me.

 Thanks guys for your replies. I was thinking epoxy but not sure how it will adhere to the rubber/metal. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands of epoxy to use?

Try J-B Weld. Enlarge the mounting holes to get better adhesion.

  I used JB weld and it worked perfectly. Problem now is that the seal tore the first day I used it!!! Cheap!!   I have seen NOS seals but they are usually pricey. Can anyone chime in that the money is worth it for the Ford seal?? Are they a lot thicker/better quality??
Also, is there an alignment to the plate under the shifter cover? When I put the car in park, it looks like the shifter is pinching the seal on the left like it's offset?? That's where it ripped.

did you 'lube' the seal?? it will help.

I'd be looking for another bezel, unless you can come up with some other type of method to fasten.  Maybe a small set screw, although there isn't much material thickness to screw into.

I did lube the seal, and shifter, I had seen that tip elsewhere.

 It's a shame as I have a nice bezel and dial indicator lens.. Wondering now if the shifter needs a new bushing?? Maybe that's why it seems to offset?? It is tight with no slop though? Sorry, it's my first stang with an auto, I'm still learning. I don't mean to ask such elementary questions.

What do you mean by offset?

If the shifter rod does not move side to side, then the bushings are fine.
