67 parking brake cable rubber components
« on: September 20, 2010, 09:11:38 PM »
In the process of attempting to restore my 67 parking brake cables, and found that the rubber components are in various conditions of hardening, cracking, and falling off.  Does anyone have a recommendation on where to go for replacements?  Thanks, John

http://www.allclassicmustang.com/

I bought a complete set from JD Larson of all Classic Mustang. Mine could not be restored due to frayed wires but he has the NOS rubber pieces and the hoses look exact. I would try him.

John,

I don't know if the 67 used the same seal or not, but I found the rubber caps for my 65 at AMK, item #B-13189

I would like to know if anyone bought the cables from inlinetube.  From the picture it doesn't look like the cables have the rubber sleeve.

Although the pictures at Inlinetube show the various types of e-brake cables that look correct, I found that what I received was nothing like the original. Frist, the cable was nearly 1/3 thicker than an original. Next, the housing was not the parallel wire bundle wrapped with a single wire type. It was the flat wrapped housing (like the part of the e-brake from handle to the equalizer). Third, the housing did not have the rubber insulator sleeve. Last, the housing ends did not have the paint markings as the originals did.

While not good for concours, I think the cables are very good for drivers and other types or restoration levels.

Pete Morgan

That's disappointing.  I wonder if there is anyway we can get them to correct the cables.

I doubt it.... generic highly produced reproduction parts will always be lacking in quality and craftsmanship. There are exceptions to the rule like Scott Fuller reproductions and a few others.
