How to paint the Engine correct - 68 S code

Hey Guys!

I have some questions reguarding a concours painted engine. (68 390 gt)

Did ford paint the crank damper blue? I think i saw some Survivors I my life which hat it painted blue??

Is it correct that the distributor can have at the bottom some blue overspray?

Does anyone have some pics of a survivor engine bay?

The crank balancer was added after the engine was painted and should be black. There may be some engine block overspray on the bare metal sleeve spacer between the timing cover and the crank balancer. The distributor and the hold down where added after the engine was painted and should not have overspray on them.

Do you know that paint job to be original 50 year old from the factory?

There are a lot of different things between a big block you asked about and the smallblock in the picture you posted.

Yes there is a difference in the way the BB and SB were painted besides the different components.

Its at least seen a touch up or two  ::)

Oh you are correct I didn't thought that there could be a difference in painting between big and small block.

You may not realize that the engines were built at different plants by different workers with different directions often. Plus just different engines with different parts like Bob mentioned.

Not much in the way of unrestored S code 68's since allot of them were modified and used heavily. Though the parts that were installed prior to paint aren't that hard to figure out. Pay attention to things like the fading on the engine plate, if the car is a manual or automatic transmission (makes a difference in how they were painted) and what Thermactor parts were installed before and after paint
