Early 67 Disc Brake & Fuel Line Hanger & Hardware Finish
« on: March 28, 2018, 09:50:02 AM »
I assume the hanger brackets are all natural steel and all bolts are Phosphate & Oil plus the spring clip that holds the front to rear brake line to the fuel line, being "spring steel", a blackened color.

Just checking. I have seen many "kits" with bright zinc, not feeling like any of these items were zinc or silver in color but thought I would ask. (a few examples from my original lines attached in images.

I for one have not seen any of the line clips that were silver in color from the factory and believe that they were natural steel or P/O.

Believe the brake line clips (the 3's) were likely plated P& O - dark but have not found any thing  that suggests that the strap line retainers were zinc or cad (silver) in color originally

Thank you for the confirmations.
FWIW, I believe the paint that you see on the brake line clips is from an engine compartment repaint where the brake lines were mask off. At least that is what makes sense to me as I would not have painted the brake lines.

I found a single 3 clip a few days ago. This clip attaches or spaces a fuel line with a brake line.
Where on the car does it go? Is there only one?
The Assy Manual is of little help as that page is sparse on details.

I found just 1, about 5 inches back from front first 90 degree bend, as the line runs straight in the trans tunnel. This detail holds true at least for San Jose and 1st design lines (early, before Feb 1st change-over).

From 67 PB  applications - There is one located up by the master cylinder that holds the front and rear feed lines apart.

Is there more than one type of '3' clip?

Mine holds a small (brake) and large (gas) line apart. See pic.

My 70 Boss has a clip of some type that holds two brake lines apart at the base of the firewall.
Does the Shelby have one of those too?

Sure there are likely a number of different ones for different years and applications.

Since we're discussing 67 disc brake cars it did originally have one like I showed. Are you asking about the unequal one you showed or the equal style I posted??

Ha! Looks like both now. Yes, for my SJ Shelby w/PB. I posted before you added the pics.

67gtasanjose posted his pic #2 and it didn't click as to where this was located.
After his response and looking at your pics I gather my big/small '3' goes at the rear near the fuel tank where the fuel and brake lines converge.
And that I'm missing what appears to be the small/small '3' at the master.
Right?

Of course my parts car is manual brakes, so it doesn't need this piece at the master.

I did specify the large/small "3" clip was about 5 inches BACK so up front at trans tunnel, not driveshaft tunnel. I amended my post above and added the word FRONT. Yes, picture 2 shows where I found it and you can see the 90 degree bend I referred to.

I was confused by your pic 2.

If you reference my attached pic I thought the area by the pink dot  was the end of the tube not a sharp 90 that was almost totally obscured. And, of course, on an early 67 car the end is either at the tank or at the front apron.

I did find the '3' clip on my parts car and it was near end of the front sub-frame, near the tunnel's break-over to the flat floor.

As stated in another thread, the disassembly pics of my SJ Shelby and it's near-build-date (and very close vin) parts car both have the early over steering column brake lines.

I get it...the picture I took of mine was referenced for my use when I put it back on so I already knew it was up front and the gas line went onward forwards (much, much further forwards from where this "#" snaps on)...then you asked "where" and my picture was only a taken a few days earlier so it was really handy!

BTW, I ended up purchasing new lines from "Right Stuff", though mine were "savable", it was clear that my small lines needed replaced up by the Master Cylinder and these lines laying next to the new M.C.  lines wouldn't have made muster.

Hence, If somebody needs nice, usable, rust-free OE lines with a bit of "patina", I have some!

So now, going by Jeff's picture...I need the "3" up by the Master Cylinder. The HUNT begins!
