Hey all,

I have found out that the drivers side shackle on a dual exhaust car was different, the passenger side is a standard regular leaf spring shackle with the nuts on the same side. On the drivers side the two nuts are crisis cross. I've attached two picture of repro ones just for clarification. Does anyone know the actual ford part numbers for these two different shackles, I don't have a ford parts number book?

Thanks,

Jason

Yes it is different, "L" shaped (the base of the "L" is the threaded stud). There is no part number stamped on it and it is not listed in the 75 MPC (Sec 54 pg 39). The right hand shackle is (C6DZ-5630-A)

Yeah, that's what I came up with as well, only found the one part number... and each side is an "L shape" is a better description then "crisscrossed nuts"... haha.

Thanks,

Because I'm looking for a set of correct shackles for my car, and telling people about the odd duck on the drivers side of the car, no one seems to believe me or know what I'm talking about. So someone asked me for a part number for the dual exhaust drivers side one and I couldn't find any information on a different part number.

I suspected as much is why I asked. You are wasting your time trying to tie the shackle with a part number. The part number will only help in someone checking stock on a NOS part. Not that there might not be a NOS one someplace stashed put don't hold your breath. I have never come across one new and have been scavenging parts for Shelby's (all duel exhaust) for decades. Maybe others have been luckier then I.  I have seen many used but most will not pass because of being too beat up or pitted. FYI everyone I know that needs one makes them up using a original pair and making up the duel exhaust side from the parts whether they admit it or not. The repro duel exhaust shackles are a waste of time if you are concerned about details.  FYI they are illustrated in the assembly manual although not very clearly.

Thanks Bob and so far I completely agree, this has been difficult hunting. I never really thought about converting one of them on a normal set before, that's actually a great idea... I've found some good originals, but never a true dual exhaust set...

Thanks for the great idea if I completely hit the wall.

They are in the illustration manual,  but I can tell you many dual exhaust cars never received them.

So, its importnat to do your own research and use your car as a guide.

Pete are you referring to dual exhaust cars in general or a specific year?  Don't recall ever seeing a 66 San Jose (GT for example) without the required shackles

Pete, what years are you referring to? The only years I can recall there being a issue on is 1968 and 69 . In those years assembly manuals that style of duel exhaust specific shackle is not illustrated indicating it was most likely not used.   They are however very consistently seen at least at the SJ plant for years 65,66 and 67 . Also seen in the assembly manual those years.  All of the duel exhaust survivor 65-67 cars I have ever seen had them for instance.
