1966 289 water pump bolt thread sealant
« on: March 13, 2018, 07:23:12 PM »
The lower mounting bolt for the a/c idler pulley appears to need the threads sealed.  Coolant came out when the bolt was removed.  Looking for a recommendation on what product to use....only want to do this once.  I'm surprised at this, since it it is an adjustment bolt that may need to be loosened and retightened.

Ran into this myself a few weeks ago. A sealant from permetex or the like with PTFE should do the trick so long as you have new bolts. If the bolt is corroded a sealant likely won't work. I put brand new bolts in without sealant and haven't had a leak yet for what its worth.

run a tap into the hole to clean out any old gunk before resealing.
