69-70 Sportsroof fold down panel retainers needed
« on: March 07, 2018, 11:16:01 AM »
I need 6 of the clips that retain the panel above the trap door on a 69-70 fastback with a fold down seat. Will buy one to six. Please reply if you have these. Thanks!
Doug

I was missing a couple. Purchased the green metal part from NPD, cut some metal squares from some spare sheet metal that fit the back of the panel, and then used silicone to replace the rubbery stuff the originals had. Have not installed the panel yet but the repaired ones look like they will work as well as the originals.

Interesting! I have considered jury-rigging something, but I don't have even one of these damned clips to look at to give me an idea of what is needed.
I, too, purchased the metal portion of the clips in the hope that I can find the rest somewhere. Your solution may work for me as well.
Any chance you could post some pics?
Thanks for the reply!

Cut a square till the top and bottom sides were just slightly too large to fall in. This is so you can press it in and it stays lodged in. File in the notches in the metal as well so it will go in. press in place, but not all the way down. Spread the green clip open just enough to fit one end under the square plate. Slide it over and put the other side of the green clip under the plate. The green clip should float around the square plate a bit. I then used a bit of silicone from a squeeze tube to cover and go around the legs of the green clip. Attached is the original and one of my alterations.

Thanks for the pics and excellent description!

Now I need to get out the aviation snips and some sheet metal and get to work!

Your welcome!

I used some thin metal and metal snips as well. The small part bent up a little but you just hit it with a hammer on a flat surface (my vice has an anvil area) to flatten it back out. Then used the vice again to hold the small parts to file the two opposing sides parallel and add the notch to both sides. I only needed 2, took me about 30 min to do both.

First, I am not at all familiar with 1969-70 Parts. That being said, here are a couple places you could check for clips :

1)  https://mrgusa.com/fasteners/  Look under "Miscellaneous Retainers".

2)  auveco.com/onlinecatalog

Might be of help.

Thanks, just looked over both these sites and neither seems to carry the part.
