NOS heater hose correct or acceptable?
« on: February 24, 2018, 02:18:30 AM »
Someone asked me for nos heater hose and found a few pieces of 60's era ribbed black hose.  No stripes.  Are these black stripeless hoses acceptable for any show class?  Anyone know if there is a method of applying a stripe to a hose?

Some vehicle specifics may help however I think the white stripe would be the norm. Unfamiliar with the ribbing if used on 64-66. I’ve applied stripes to hoses by simply masking off the desired stripe size ,clean with some lacquer thinner and lightly dusting a white primer until I achieved the desired finish.

... Unfamiliar with the ribbing if used on 64-66...

With the ribbing and no stripes, the hose in OP resembles one of the Thermactor hoses used in certain applications during at least 1966/67.

Pics of ribbed Thermactor hoses from another discussion thread (found at http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=15058.msg102706#msg102706):

Hoses were typically ribbed to identify the supplier both heater, bypass and Thermactor for a couple of examples. Agree this ribbing pattern shown in the OPs post matches well with bulk thermactor hose  so you might want to look at a cross section to see how its constructed and the ID.

Yes there are ways to mark or restamp but if I understand correctly the ink/paint used is different if you want to make it last and adhere to the rubber.  Jack at Dead-Nuts-On was doing his own hose markings in house last time I visited but of course he likely doesn't have the applicators for early heater hoses made since he tends to focus on the later years
