Clutch Pedal Bumper / Stopper?
« on: February 20, 2018, 07:27:01 PM »
My '70 (Dearborn, Oct 6th, 1969) has lost its clutch pedal bumper / stopper.  What was "original" / would be a correct replacement?

It appears that there are two versions available:

- a pink version that seems to be for 1969, with a short "neck".

- a black version that seems to be for 1970, with a long "neck".

Here is what's left of mine - it appears to have been a pink version of the "long neck" '70 bumper.  It looks like it had a longer shaft like the black '70 stopper, but is made of pink rubber like the '69 version.

The 1969 rubber bumper attaches to the pedal hanging bracket. The common 1970 bumper like yours attaches to the clutch pedal.
I found one remaining on a 1970 clutch pedal.

Thanks Scott!

So no one else has seen a pink bumper on a '70 clutch pedal?

Thank you!  That's probably what I have then - or what's left of it.

Looks like the repro's and "NOS" currently available are all black.  I'll probably just go with a black repro for now and add a red one to my "Wish List".

I did find this pedal assembly on eBay that appears to show the red bumper still in place...

Some update on this subject;

So I purchased the black bumper to give it a shot.  It was pretty sloppy in the hole, and I didn't really think it should be that loose, so I ordered a red bumper as well.  The stem was a bit short and the rubber seemed very soft - so much so that the little "tabs" on the stem would not hold it firmly in place.  But with the clutch pedal up, it was held there just fine ;-)

Was reconnecting the brake booster a week or so later and took a look at the red clutch bumper.  Hmm... I think I have a match, LOL!

Some pics:
Comparison pic of both bumper versions, as well as the remains of my original.
Original red bumper remains when they were still in place (2pics)
New bumper after a week or so installed.
