this was a good video on a heater box rebuild. if you haven't seen these guys on youtube yet. They do allot of early mustang/cougar work. I did mine a few years ago. there isn't much to it really.

I know this is an old thread, but bear with me. I am refurbing a late '65 non-AC heater.

I watched this video (Autorestomod #110), some good tips, but saw something that I have not been able to find any other mention of. At 14:25 there is discussion about this bracket of some sort that is not correct, too large and blocking the heater case halves from going back together.

My heater has the exact same part. It does not have end caps.

Was this a later mod so that the end caps could be deleted?

I've taken apart a number of 65-66 cases over the years with the full frame and end deflector in them. Sorry didn't pay attention at the time as to which cars or dates they came from. Don't believe the part is incorrect for all applications as the clip claims. More research and documentation is needed IMHO

i?m also restoring my heaterbox (no-AC) right now and found exactly this bracket inside. No end caps. Car was built 03/02/67.

New guy to the forum - hoping not to put his foot in his mouth immediately - I have 66 Convertible (Dearborn, 5/7/66) and have been in my heater box a couple of times.  I have that "incorrect part" in mine as well and I believe it to be correct.  I base this belief partly on the fact that the first time I redid the seals it looked to me like no one had ever been in there since the car was built (I bought it on it's 30th birthday, give or take).  I have also looked at the Master Parts Catalog illustrations, which clearly show that bracket for both the 65-66 and 67-68 configurations.    Hope this helps some.  I'm attaching the relevant MPC illustrations for reference.
